Finding my Happy Place
This is my first foray into blogging. I decided to call it “A Mountain Happy Place.” Why? Well there’s my obvious love for the mountains. My hubby and I recently packed up our whole lives and moved away from our jobs, friends and the amazing community we had around us in Portland, OR. We decided to go on an adventure and relocate to the mountains of Summit County, Colorado. Why Colorado? We had no connections here, no friends… but we DO love the mountains. Summit County is a skiers nirvana with 4 world-class ski resorts within 20 minutes. We can hike or bike out our back door. There’s wildlife everywhere and a massive network of dirt roads to play on. And nothing could make us happier than being in the outdoors. In moving to a small mountain town, we found our happy place!
There’s another, hidden meaning behind “A Mountain Happy Place” too. “Find my Happy Place” is my mantra when I’m being seriously challenged. For example, when I go skiing and I get to the top of a big, giant field of Volkswagen-sized moguls… I can get scared that I’m going to mess up and fall, or I can find my Happy Place. When I’m in my mental Happy Place, I think of the beautiful spot I’m in, think of all the times I’ve gotten down something harder than this before and I focus on my technique and keeping my balance centered. I don’t think about messing up. I don’t think about how much I struggle in moguls. I tell myself that I am about to make these moguls my favorite!! Living in a new town, with no friends and no job, it’s a constant challenge to feel good about where I’m at. This blog is here to help me find my Happy Place and maybe help someone else find theirs. I’m focusing on getting to know this beautiful place, getting back in shape, building my sense of community and finding something that I love to do. I’m going to make this My Mountain Happy Place.
